How Is Hyderabad Archdiocese Preparing Catechists and Church Workers for Their Ministry?
About 75 catechists, animators and sacristans from Hyderabad Archdiocese joined a formation programme on Scripture, liturgy and sacraments, strengthening their role as witnesses of Christ today.
About 75 catechists, animators and sacristans from the Archdiocese of Hyderabad participated in an ongoing formation programme on September 22, focusing on Scripture, liturgy, the sacraments and their responsibilities in Christian ministry. The programme was held at the Andhra Pradesh Jyotirmai Society Central Office in Sikh Village, Secunderabad. It was organised by the Andhra Pradesh Jyotirmai Society in collaboration with the Hyderabad Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre. The formation programme focused on strengthening the ministry of catechists, animators and sacristans and helping them grow in their role as witnesses of Christ. Focus on Scripture and Christian Life During the sessions, resource persons highlighted the importance of living consistently with one's faith in daily life. Participants were encouraged to share the Gospel, demonstrate Christian values through acts of mercy and justice, and remain committed during difficulties. The programme also placed particular emphasis on reading, understanding and applying the Bible in everyday situations. Participants reflected on challenges such as religious skepticism, strengthening Catholic faith and recognising God's presence through their daily responsibilities and service. Importance of Ongoing Formation The programme highlighted the need for continuous learning and formation among those involved in parish ministry. Catechists, animators and sacristans often assist communities in areas connected with faith formation, liturgical life and parish service. The organisers stressed that ongoing formation can help them guide others in Christian practice and provide spiritual support within their communities. Eucharistic Celebration The programme concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, bringing together the participants in prayer and thanksgiving. Gifts were also distributed to participants as a gesture of appreciation from Cardinal Anthony Poola, Archbishop of Hyderabad, recognising their commitment to spiritual service and ministry. The formation programme provided an opportunity for the participants to deepen their understanding of Scripture and Church life while reflecting on their responsibilities in serving Catholic communities.
