What Brought 85 Christian Leaders Together in Northeast India for Prayer?

Eighty-five Christian leaders representing different churches across East Arunachal Pradesh gathered at St. Mary’s School in Namsai on September 22 for a day-long prayer meeting focused on Christian unity and prayer for the nation. The gathering brought together pastors, evangelists, women leaders, catechists and youth leaders from churches across eight districts of East Arunachal Pradesh. The prayer meeting was organised by Bishop George Pallipparambil, SDB, of the Diocese of Miao. In his address, the bishop encouraged participants to look beyond denominational differences and recognise their shared Christian identity. Referring to Jesus’ prayer for the unity of his followers in John 17:21, Bishop Pallipparambil emphasised the importance of Christians praying for one another and for their neighbours. Prabhin Baraik of United Christian Prayers for India led reflections on intercessory prayer. Drawing from 1 Timothy 2:1-2, participants prayed for national leaders, people in authority, community leaders and people across the country. The gathering was welcomed by representatives from different Christian communities. Rabi Angu of the Heva Baptist Association described such initiatives as an opportunity to strengthen fellowship and bring Christians closer together. Other participants also spoke about the value of continuing prayer beyond the gathering. Church leaders said the meeting encouraged a more focused approach to intercession and prayer for specific people and communities. Noromso Chai, president of the Lohit Anjaw Christian Forum, said the gathering encouraged participants to adopt a more intentional approach to prayer. Participants were encouraged to pray regularly for one another, their leaders, neighbours and others. The programme concluded with a resolution to prepare and distribute a common prayer card. The card will include a short prayer and space for participants to write the names of 20 people for whom they will commit themselves to pray. Organisers said the initiative was intended to continue beyond the one-day meeting by encouraging Christians across East Arunachal Pradesh to maintain regular prayer for their communities and the nation. The gathering provided an opportunity for Christians from different denominations to come together in prayer, strengthen fellowship and reflect on their shared responsibility toward their communities and country.
