What Is Belgaum Diocese Preparing for Its 75th Anniversary?

The Diocese of Belgaum has begun its Preparatory Year for the Platinum Jubilee, inviting Catholics across its parishes to take part in a journey of thanksgiving, communion and pastoral renewal. The preparatory year was inaugurated on September 27, 2026, under the theme “Walking Together towards a Pastoral Renewal.” The celebrations followed common liturgical guidelines prepared by the Core Jubilee Committee for parishes across the diocese. The inauguration included an entrance procession with Jubilee placards, the recitation of the Rosary, the unveiling of the Jubilee logo and a Medical Fund Box, followed by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. The Jubilee Prayer was also recited at the conclusion of the Mass. At the Cathedral, Bishop Derek Fernandes reflected on the spiritual importance of the Jubilee journey and encouraged the faithful to participate actively in the pastoral renewal of the diocese. The occasion also marked thanksgiving for 73 years of the diocese's journey and the blessings experienced throughout its history. Belgaum Diocese is preparing to celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2028. During the Preparatory Year, Catholics are being encouraged to participate through prayer, family Rosaries, pastoral initiatives and charitable activities. The Jubilee journey aims to strengthen communion, participation and shared responsibility as the diocese continues its mission and service to the people. The year of preparation therefore serves not only as a celebration of the past but also as an opportunity for the faithful to reflect on how they can contribute to the future pastoral mission of the Diocese of Belgaum.
