Special attention needs to be given to fragility

The Pope pointed out that an important element to focus on is “fragility,” as it strongly shapes peoples’ lives and relationship with God and the Church.

Special attention needs to be given to fragility

Pope Leo XIV has called on the Church to remain close to families, especially during moments of weakness, suffering and uncertainty. Reflecting on the challenges families face today, the Pope emphasized the importance of recognizing God’s grace even in situations marked by limitations, wounds and apparent failure.

“The experience of fragility raises the question of whether we are able to remain close to one another when life no longer corresponds to what had been hoped for, and whether we can recognize the work of grace even in situations marked by limits, wounds and apparent failure,” the Pope emphasized.

He highlighted that families have something important to teach the entire Church because fragility is part of the human condition and is also present in the life of the Church.

“We need grace, forgiveness and new beginnings to accomplish God’s will, and we learn that fidelity is itself a grace to be received and a path to be gradually renewed, often through trial,” he said.

The Pope encouraged the Church to reflect on how it accompanies people and families when they are experiencing their most difficult moments. He stressed that communities should help people recognize that they still have a place, a responsibility and gifts to offer.

He asked the Church to consider whether its pastoral presence allows people to encounter the truth of the Gospel through patience, closeness and mercy.

“What kind of Church, then, do people encounter precisely when they are most fragile? Do our communities help them discover that they still have a place, a responsibility and gifts to offer? Can the truth we proclaim be encountered through the patience, closeness and mercy of our pastoral presence? How can we announce to them the fullness of the Gospel’s teaching about the family?” he asked.

Pope Leo XIV’s message highlights the importance of creating a Church where families and individuals do not feel abandoned in times of difficulty. Through grace, forgiveness, mercy and renewed beginnings, the Church is called to accompany people and help them discover hope in Christ.

The message reminds Christians that moments of weakness do not take away a person’s dignity or place within the Church. Instead, they can become opportunities to experience God’s grace, healing and a new beginning.
