Mission 2033 Brings Synodal Approach to Catechesis in Bihar Region
A two-day “Mission 2033” training programme in Patna brought together 31 priests, catechists and religious sisters to explore synodal and missionary approaches to faith formation in the Bihar Region.
A two-day training programme titled “Mission 2033”, focused on synodal approaches to catechesis, began on September 17 at the Navjyoti Regional Pastoral Centre in Patna. The programme, held on September 17–18, brought together representatives involved in faith formation from different dioceses across the Bihar Region. The initiative aims to strengthen local catechetical work in line with the CCBI Pastoral Plan 2033. Participants gathered to reflect on ways of developing faith formation that respond more effectively to the pastoral needs of their respective dioceses. The programme was conducted under the pastoral guidance of Bishop James Shaker of Buxar, Chairman of the BBRC Faith Formation Commission, and Bishop Cajetan Osta of Muzaffarpur. Regional Secretary Fr. Anil Benet Dcruz coordinated and organised the event. Bishop Cajetan Osta delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of walking together in faith. Bishop James Shaker led the spiritual programme, celebrating the Holy Eucharist and delivering the homily. A total of 31 delegates participated in the training, including 25 priests and catechists and six religious sisters. Fr. Vijay Machado, Executive Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Faith Formation, served as the main resource person. He introduced participants to the “Synodal Method,” based on spiritual conversation, and explored ways of applying synodal and missionary catechesis within the pastoral context of Bihar. The sessions included practical guidance and tools to help participants implement the Faith Formation Pastoral Plan in their dioceses. Particular attention was given to adapting catechetical strategies according to local needs. The programme also included sessions on Liturgical Catechesis and YOUCAT, along with workshops, group discussions and opportunities for participants to share experiences. These activities were intended to strengthen collaboration among dioceses and support coordinated pastoral planning. The training forms part of the wider effort to develop faith formation and catechetical ministry in the Bihar Region while promoting greater participation, collaboration and synodality in the Church.
