SPCK Named Publisher of the Year After Strong Year of Growth

Christian publisher SPCK is celebrating a major year after being named Publisher of the Year at the Christian Resources Together Awards 2026. The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, commonly known as SPCK, also received recognition for several of its published titles. Staying Faithful by Harry Clark won Audiobook of the Year, while Emma Fowle’s All The Times You Were Not There received the Biography of the Year award. John Lennox’s God, AI and The End of History was named Christian Life Book of the Year. SPCK has a long history dating back to 1698 and has expanded considerably in recent years. The organisation merged with Inter-Varsity Press in 2015 and became Britain's largest Christian publisher following its acquisition of Lion Hudson in 2021. Earlier in September 2026, SPCK also acquired US-based publisher William B. Eerdmans. The company described the development as strengthening its position as a major independent publisher of theology, biblical studies and Christian books. SPCK Group CEO Sam Richardson said the Publisher of the Year award recognised what he described as an extraordinary year for the organisation, its authors and its wider team. He highlighted the group's growth, its efforts to reach new audiences and the wider cultural conversations surrounding books about Christian faith. Richardson also praised the authors behind the award-winning titles and acknowledged the contribution of SPCK staff, booksellers and bookstores in bringing the books to readers. The publisher said its aim is to produce books that engage seriously with contemporary issues, support and equip Christian readers internationally, and address difficult questions from a Christian perspective. The awards and recent developments mark another significant stage in SPCK's long history of Christian publishing and its continuing expansion in the UK and international markets.
