Attack on Village Church in West Bengal Raises Concerns Over Christian Safety .

A reported attack on a Christian prayer gathering in Sinni village under Dantan 2 block of Paschim Medinipur district, West Bengal, has raised concerns about the safety of Christian worshippers in the region. According to Matters India, a group allegedly entered a house church during Sunday worship and disrupted the prayer service. The report says that when women attending the gathering confronted the intruders, some were allegedly assaulted. Several women were also reportedly taken away and held for nearly 90 minutes. Members of the Bangiya Khristiya Parisheba (BCP), also known as the Bengal Christian Council, reportedly travelled to the village after receiving information about the incident. Police personnel from Dantan Police Station intervened and secured the release of those who had reportedly been detained. The victims and BCP representatives subsequently went to the police station to pursue legal action. Matters India reported that an FIR was registered with assistance from advocate Aditya Tewari of the BCP Legal Cell. The incident has also drawn attention because it reportedly follows another attack involving Christians in the Dantan area within a few weeks. Christian community representatives have expressed concern about repeated disruptions of Christian worship and have called for stronger protection and accountability. BCP State Founding Secretary Herod Mullick criticized what he described as insufficient government response to attacks on Christians. Matters India also reported allegations that some people associated with violent groups have been seen near state ministers; these claims remain allegations and were presented by the Christian community representative rather than established as fact. The reported incident has therefore become part of wider concerns among Christian leaders about religious freedom, security and the protection of minority communities in parts of West Bengal.
