KCYM YOUTH STAGE ANTI-DRUG FLASHMOB AT FORT KOCHI BEACH FORT KOCHI — In a creative effort to address the threat of substance abuse, young volunteers from the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) Diocese of Cochin took their message directly to the public with a dynamic anti-drug flashmob and awareness program at Fort Kochi Beach. Youth-Led Public Awareness at the Beachfront Organized by the KCYM Diocese of Cochin, the initiative sought to mobilize young people in the fight against drug dependency and foster greater public consciousness surrounding youth health and safety. The main attraction—a surprise flashmob presented by KCYM members—quickly drew a large crowd of local visitors and tourists along the beachfront. Presided over by Daniya Antony, President of the KCYM Diocese of Cochin, the program demonstrated how performing arts and youth-led demonstrations can serve as impactful tools for social advocacy. Law Enforcement Praise and Community Action The awareness event was officially inaugurated by Anjana R., Sub-Inspector of the Fort Kochi Police Station. Addressing the gathered crowd, Sub-Inspector Anjana commended the youth for taking an active leadership role in anti-drug campaigning. She noted that while government and law enforcement agencies regularly carry out narcotics raids to curb illegal drug trafficking, legal enforcement alone cannot solve the crisis. She emphasized that public awareness, parental vigilance, and active community participation are indispensable in protecting the next generation. Clergy and Youth Leadership United The program featured inspiring addresses from church and youth leaders, including Fr. Jinil Kaitheth (Assistant Director), Jeeva Regi (Vice President), Dias Antony (Secretary-in-charge), Adv. Tom Antony (Executive Member), and Arun Peter. Key organizers and supporters in attendance included animator Sr. Mini George, treasurer George Jickson, secretary Sanoop Das, along with Akshaya Maria, Alwin Joseph, and Alan Joseph. By combining creative performance with direct public outreach, the KCYM youth reinforced the message that tackling drug abuse requires a collective, community-wide commitment.
