Christian Group Seeks Political Representation and Welfare Measures in Telangana

TUCPA urged Telangana government to increase Christian representation and welfare measures, including nominated posts, an MLC seat, burial land, pastors’ honorarium and SC status for Dalit Christians.

Christian Group Seeks Political Representation and Welfare Measures in Telangana

The Telangana United Christians and Pastors Association (TUCPA) has urged the Telangana government to address several long-standing demands of the Christian community, including greater political representation and welfare measures. A TUCPA delegation led by its General Secretary Goneh Solomon Raj submitted a representation to the State government seeking action on the association’s demands. The group said that the Protestant and Catholic Christian communities are an important part of Telangana’s social fabric and include people from Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, Other Backward Classes and Forward Classes. Among its political demands, the association sought representation for Christians through nominated posts, commissions and political party positions. It called for the appointment of a TPCC working president from the Christian community and requested a Christian representative in the Legislative Council. The TUCPA also sought the appointment of a chairman to the Christian Minority Finance Corporation and a vice-chairman of the Minorities Commission. It further requested representation for Christians as directors in various departments, members of municipal bodies, market committee positions and DCC posts at district, constituency and mandal levels. The association also raised several welfare-related issues. These included a monthly honorarium for pastors and the allocation of burial-ground land in every mandal. It also called for legislation to address religious hate speech. Another major demand concerned the long-standing request to extend Scheduled Caste status to Dalit Christians. The association also urged the government to streamline socio-economic benefits for members of the Christian community. The representation reflects the TUCPA’s request for greater participation of Christians in governance and for welfare measures addressing issues affecting Christian communities across Telangana. The report was published by Telangana Today on September 9, 2026.
