Telangana Christian Group Seeks Greater Political Representation and Welfare Measures

Telangana Christian Group Seeks Greater Political Representation and Welfare Measures Hyderabad, Telangana — September 9, 2026: The Telangana United Christians and Pastors Association (TUCPA) has called on the State government to address the long-pending political and welfare concerns of the Christian community. A delegation of TUCPA representatives, led by General Secretary Goneh Solomon Raj, submitted a representation to the government seeking greater participation of Christians in governance and improved access to welfare opportunities. The association said Christians form an important part of Telangana’s social fabric and include people from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, Other Backward Classes and Forward Communities. Demand for Political Representation The TUCPA has sought greater representation for Christians in political and government structures. Among its demands is the appointment of a Christian leader as TPCC working president and allocation of an MLC seat to the community. The association also requested the appointment of a chairman for the Christian Minority Finance Corporation and a vice-chairperson of the Minorities Commission. It further sought representation for Christians as directors in different government departments, members of municipal bodies and chairpersons or members of market committees. The group also called for appropriate Christian representation in District Congress Committee positions at district, constituency and mandal levels. Welfare Measures Sought Along with political representation, the association submitted several welfare-related demands. One of its key requests is a monthly honorarium for pastors. The group also sought government allocation of burial ground land in every mandal to address difficulties faced by Christian families. The TUCPA additionally called for legislation to address religious hate speech and protect communities from inflammatory or discriminatory statements. Demand for SC Status for Dalit Christians Another major issue raised by the association is the long-standing demand for Scheduled Caste status for Dalit Christians. The TUCPA urged the government to support this demand and work toward ensuring that Dalit Christians receive appropriate socio-economic benefits. The association said welfare measures should effectively reach eligible members of the Christian community and called for the government to take action on issues that have remained unresolved for years. Call for Inclusive Governance The demands presented by the TUCPA focus on political participation, welfare, representation and social protection for Christians in Telangana. The association has urged the State government to consider its proposals and take steps to ensure that members of the Christian community receive equitable opportunities in governance and welfare programmes. The development highlights the growing demand among Christian community organisations in Telangana for greater representation in public institutions and stronger measures addressing their social and economic concerns.
